The Gingerbread Collective
|
|
Presented by Arclinea San
Diego The award-winning kitchen
designers at Arclinea San Diego will hold the studio's inaugural holiday
charitable program from December 10 through 12 to benefit Second
Chance. "The 2009 Gingerbread Collective," a three-day gingerbread competition hosted in the company's downtown showroom at 2515 Fifth Avenue will feature a public showcase of gingerbread houses designed and built
by leading San Diego architects, designers, artists and cultural leaders. From
mid-century marvels to architectural-inspired confections, the houses will make
a delectable Fifth Avenue holiday window display, allowing the public to view
and vote for its favorite design, in-person and also online.
On its closing night, December 12, the program will end with
a cocktail party and silent auction of the gingerbread houses with 100 percent
of the proceeds being donated to Second
Chance.
The program's three days of holiday festivities will be

Friends of Second Chance Provide Thanksgiving to Housing Residents
|
|
The Friends of Second Chance generously provided Thanksgiving dinners for the residents of Second Chance's alcohol- and drug-free housing. Each house received the ingredients for a full Thanksgiving feast which was enjoyed by the residents.
Jason, a participant in class #138 said, "I got to deep fry a turkey. I had seen this done on TV while I was incarcerated but now I had a chance to actually do it." Joe, a recent graduate, noted, "I was really worried about the day but I went back to Alumni House (I had recently moved out) and spent the whole day with my Second Chance family. We had a full meal and it was real food, not powdered potatoes. I felt like people really cared about me. It is what makes Second Chance such a special place."
The residents, staff and board of Second Chance would like to thank Gina Ellis, the Friends of Second Chance organizer, and those who made these special meals possible: The National Charity League The Alexander
family The Borthwick-Purnell
family The Clapp family The Corborsiero family The Crosbie family The Dischner family The Eddy family The Farfel
family The Hughes
family The Jackel family The Mansukhani family
